ITALY, Camolgi (Italian Riviera)
THE VACATION "OF" THE VACATION
We took a train out of Florence and headed to Camogli which is near Cinque Terra, Italy. So Florence needs some work on their train station, it is nowhere near par of their gelato (which by the way have i mentioned it was fabulous?) ☺ in fact their train station kind of sucked the big one to be honest. No workers to really guide you, I don’t know how the hell we figured it out. Oh wait, I know – I found an American girl that was able to assist us.
Camolgi. This was the place that was to be the "vacation OF the vacation" if you will. We set aside 4 nights there which was the longest we had stayed on any given part of the entire vacation. And although the view there is really beautiful, i mean UNREAL Beautiful and our room was really really nice....the immediate surroundings (again other then the view & our room) had ALOT to be desired in our eyes! I’m sure you are thinking what could be so bad about Camolgi when you see the pics. It was just way more touristy then we expected & the topping on the cake, the food sucked, every single meal was becoming a joke between the two of us! At least we found humor in that part. But with the unexpected disappointments we did figure our trip could not have gone without SOME kind of bump in this glorious road we had been traveling for almost 3 weeks. and that bump was called Camolgi. You know, actually to come think of it now, as we were arriving, gazing out the train windows, they should have had one of those bright yellow diamond shaped street signs with a black curvy line signifying a bump in the road and under it should have read CAMOLGI! Ha!
The plan was to stay in Camogli and relax alot & do a day trip into Cinque Terra where we would hike the 3K trail that takes you from each of the five towns that are only accessible between each other via boat or this footpath. But we opted out of the 45 min. train ride back into Cinque Terra simply due to the weather. It was BLAZING hot – so hiking in that kind of weather, no thanks. Lounging and being able to jump in the ocean, yes please!
So sparing you all of the details of our disappointments of this place & the 5 bad first impressions we encountered one right after the other when we first arrived - I will jump forward to tell you it eventually got better (we did arrive on a Saturday, we didn’t realize that fact for awhile so that had something to do with it). And regardless of the totally unsatisfying food that every meal ended up being (well justin had a few good steaks), the gigantic cliffs that go straight down into the calm peaceful warm ocean water was Extremely Beautiful & Relaxing – and so we met most of our goals with Camolgi we’d both say. But we wouldn't go back again.
